Repair And Maintenance Of ISO Tank Containers
How can shipping containers be maintained in top condition?
Let’s take a look at how dry containers, reefers, and tanks – also known as “ISO Tank Containers” – are repaired and maintained to transport hazardous and non-hazardous bulk liquids.
Dry containers with diameters of 20 and 40 feet must be inspected on a regular basis to detect dents produced by external impacts. Rainwater can collect in dents, causing corrosion and paint flaking. Dents must be levelled and rust-proof paint applied. The walls must be levelled, the door seals must be replaced if they are found to be damaged, and holes and cracks must be patched. The doors must be cleaned using an industrial grade cleaner to remove all traces of grime and corrosion. For good operation, the door hinges and locking bars must be greased. Containers must be positioned on a levelled and drained surface to prevent water from gathering in any particular region within, preventing corrosion of the underside.
Because of the perishable nature of the cargo they transport, Reefer Containers require particular attention and maintenance on a regular basis. The Compressor, Evaporator, Condenser, and Fresh Air Vents are all important parts of a reefer. They must be inspected to guarantee that reefers work at their best from the loading phase to the final cargo release. To discover leaks, the refrigerant piping must be thoroughly checked. Reefers that are well-maintained avoid downtime and costly repairs.
Frame repairs and replacement, recalibration of relief valves, vacuum treatment, pressure test on shell and fittings, leak-proof testing, air purification, hot and cold water flush, and refurbishing are all part of ISO Tank Container maintenance.
Container depots and terminals are realising the need to automate and streamline the processes involved in the repair and maintenance of shipping containers as the world’s digitization footprint grows and the importance of global trade and commerce grows. The need to move away from old methods such as spreadsheets and emails has become clear, and the focus is now shifting to using user-friendly software solutions to manage workflows with minimal margin for mistake and a high level of speed and efficiency.
Repair EDIs, Billing, Analytics, Reports, Alerts, Repairs, Tariffs, Auto Approvals, Dashboards, 3rd Party Integration, and Mobile App are all part of modern software systems’ integrated platform operations. All parties involved in maintenance and repair activities, such as the company performing the repair, the Regional M&R Coordinator, the Area M&R Coordinator, the HQ M&R Coordinator, the Internal Inspector, the External Surveyor, the Recovery Agents, and so on, are all connected on a single, unified platform, ensuring the highest level of customer satisfaction.
